Adult Ministries

All adults are welcome to participate in any of our ministries to adults, which include

Bible study class

Bible Studies

Ongoing classes include

  • Lectionary Sunday School Class, a study of the scriptures used in worship. The class meets at 8:00 a.m. All are welcome.
  • Scripture Journaling, a daily program of reading the Bible and looking for God's specific word to each of us. Please contact the church office for a journal and list of readings.

We normally offer the following classes during the year. Classes are taught by the pastor or experienced Bible teachers. Most are held at the church.Please contact the church office for textbooks and other materials.

  • Disciple I-IV, 32-week in-depth studies
  • Companions in Christ courses, studies focusing on spiritual growth
  • Lent and Advent studies
  • UMC 102, also called "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the United Methodist Church" in four lessons

Church picnic

Family Activities

These include picnics, hikes, potlucks, pool parties, camps, and Christmas caroling. We encourage all generations to participate together. Please see Family Ministries for more information.

Fellowship Luncheons

Monthly luncheons provide an opportunity particularly for seniors to enjoy food and fellowship. All are welcome. You do not need to make a reservation.

Passion Groups

Cooking

All adults on our island are welcome to join one of our hobby and interest groups. The primary goals of these groups are to increase your knowledge about your hobby or interest and to enjoy fellowship with other like-minded adults. Please see the Sunday worship bulletin or call the church office for meeting times and places.

Current groups include

  • WALKING: For anyone who loves to walk for exercise or would like to start exercising.
  • COOKING: For people who love to cook and/or want to learn how to cook.
  • QUILTING: For anyone who likes to sew and desires to learn more about this art, and enjoy good conversation.
  • SCRAPBOOKING: For anyone who wants to learn how to display your photos and stories and save them for posterity.
Scrapbooking
  • CARE-GIVERS SUPPORT: For those who wish to share and discuss care-giver problems in a group setting.
  • BIBLE STUDY: Share in food, fun, and the Bible! Meets once a month at Pastor Jim and Jody's home.
  • FINANCIAL ADVISING: For those interested in better budgeting or learning about investing.
  • GARDENING: Learn from these pros. Meets at Wendy's once a month after church to eat and then head to a member's home to learn more tricks of the green trade.
  • MOVIE & CONVERSATION: Meets once a month at a local theater to see a new flick, or at a home to watch a classic. Dates vary based on movie schedules.
  • KEIKI PLAYGROUP: For children age 5 and under, and their parents.

Prayer Team

Members of the prayer team pray for the concerns raised in worship each week. Please contact the church office to join the team.

Samoan Fellowship

The Samoan language congregation offers weekly activities:

  • Prayer service, for all ages
  • Sunday school
  • Youth group, for all ages, with activities for children, youth, and adults of all ages

United Methodist Women

United Methodist Men

United Methodist Men (UMM) is an organization that assists men to know Jesus Christ, to serve Him, to grow spiritually, and to seek daily to do His will. All men are welcome to join UMM to participate in fellowship and service activities. Monthly meetings are held in the evening.

United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women (UMW) is an organization of approximately one million members whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders, and advocate for justice. Members raise nearly $25 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children, and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.

Aiea UMC's United Methodist Women have both daytime and evening meetings. All women are invited. UMW also sponsors Parents' Morning Out, a free service to relieve parents and care-givers of non-school-age children by providing loving child care one morning a week.

The Aiea UMW administers the Greathouse Scholarship for music education. For more information, please contact the church office.
