| Meals on Wheels |
The number of meals varies from month to month, hovering around 50 most of the time. The Meals on Wheels chairperson gets the list and checks with the lady in charge to see if there are any changes for that week. she also takes care of getting the milk and providing the drivers with their lists.
Meal preparers need to keep these things in mind:
1) Try to fix something and in such an amount, that it can be stretched by the recipients.
2) They get no other meals that day or on Sunday.
3) Fix something easy, fairly plain--not spicy, be sparing with salt, and fix a lot of it.
The meals usually consist of a meat, two vegetables or vegetable and salad (like slaw), bread, and a dessert. Menus have been: Country-style steak and gravy, green beans, baked potatoes, rolls and cake; Ground beef, potato and onion casserole, green beans, corn muffins, pre-packaged dessert cakes; Ham biscuits(2), cole slaw, potato salad, pound cake; Ham, sweet potato patties, green beans, rolls and cake; Ham, buttered corn, green beans, rolls and cake.[They get a lot of ham, so try to be creative.] Packaged desserts (like Little Debbies) are better because they keep well. Homemade, while good, doesn't keep as well. There are several diabetics, so a piece of fruit is a nice touch for them. Keep the desserts separate--don't put them on the plate as this makes it hard for the drivers to keep the regular plates separate from the diabetic ones.
Again, please feel free to use the vegetables there at the church--that's what they are there for. There is some money (not much) in the budget for Meals on Wheels. Submit any expenses to the church office (bills, cash-register receipts, etc.).
Check with the retailer you buy from and see if you can use the church's tax number. Most retailers (grocery stores, mostly) on the Tennessee side will. You cannot use a Tennessee tax number on the Virginia side. Check with the church office to get the tax number.
If you're not sure about fixing a meal for fifty, how about delivering? We're always in need of substitute drivers and deliverers.

| Breavement Food |
| The Bereavement Food Committee is composed of five groups of women who rotate
providing food to families in the event of the death of a father, mother,
spouse, brother, sister or child of a church member or regular attendee.
The president of the United Methodist Women will contact the family and
inquire about when and where the meal will be served and how many will be
served. The meal consists of ham, 3 to 4 vegetables, 2 to 3 salads, rolls,
and 2 to 3 desserts.
