Our Church History "Adams United Methodist Church is the third oldest Methodist church in Mississippi. It was founded in 1811 at Adams Campground on grounds that were given by Mr. and Mrs. John Adams. The land was originally located in Amite County but became part of Lincoln County shortly after the Civil War. The first name of our church was Adams Methodist Episcopal Church in America, and in 1815, the Third Annual Conference was held here. In 1844, the church became Adams Methodist Episcopal Church South; in 1939, Adams Methodist; and in 1968, Adams United Methodist Church. Our church is strong and will continue to be strong as long as we keep faith of our ancestors who loved the church and the community of Auburn. Adams has been blessed with many outstanding ministers and leaders and will continue to grow as long as we commit ourselves to walk in the footprints of Him in whose name and presence we live, love, and give. Let us dedicate ourselves to the continued obedience of God's will in our lives. In 1994, our church began an extensive renovation program. This, in itself, shows the love, hope, and dedication of its members in providing a more beautiful and comfortable place to worship for generations to come."
