About Our Pastor

 

                 Pastor Mabel E. Smith was born June 23, 1947 in Dunkirk, Maryland.  She is married to Sherman R. Smith, Sr., and is the mother of four children, grandmother of 9 and great-grand mother of one.  Her home church is Peter’s United Methodist in Dunkirk, Maryland.  She has been a member of Peter’s for over 25 years.

 

           Pastor Mabel E. smith attended Mt. Hope Elementary/Mt. Harmony Elementary, and Brooks High schools in Calvert County.  She received an Associate degree from the College of Southern Maryland, a B.A. degree in Administration from Sojourner-Douglas College of Baltimore, MD.  She is currently seeking a Master of Arts degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.

 

           Pastor Smith worked as an administrative assistant in the P.G. County Executive’s office before leaving to manage their construction company based in Calvert County.  In dedication to community, Pastor Smith served as a Cub Scout leader; is a life-long member of the NAACP, and a member of the National Political Congress of Black Women.

 

           Every since she was a little girl, Pastor Smith has had a relationship with God.  She became very active at Peter’s UMC serving in many capacities:  She was a certified lay speaker, speaking at different churches throughout Calvert, Anne Arundel, Prince George’s counties, and Washington, D.C.  She was a member of the Senior and Young Adult choirs; directed and managed the Peter’s Youth choir, served as Chairperson of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and Lay member to t he Annual Conference.  She served with faithfulness and obedience to her calling as liturgist/worship leader for almost twenty years.

 

             Pastor Mabel is called by God to spread the good news of salvation wherever she may go.  She is blessed as she works for the Kingdom of God.  Through Jesus Christ and by the power of the gift of the Holy Spirit, she is proclaiming the Gospel.

 

             “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, t hat you also love one another.  By this shall all humanity know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another (John 13:34-35).”
