Jody Nederveld - District Youth Coordinator
Goals & Visions for Youth/Acadiana District
October 14, 2000

1.  Involve more youth at the DCYM level i.e. have more churches represented on that council. This is not an easy task and can only be accomplished by one on one contact by Jody, Andree, Rachel and other DCYM members. Rachel has gone to several of the churches in the District and done Sunday night programs for them and will continue to do so throughout the year.

2. Have additional/improved resources for the smaller churches. This, unfortunately, can only be accomplished with $$$$. We would like to obtain an Interline subscription for the District which includes CD's, Videos and books with complete programs based on current contemporary music - an incredible tool for youth ministry.

3. District events for the year will include at least one weekend retreat and 3 'Souled-Out" services and a Mission Weekend. Adult training was expensive and not well attended last year so may skip this year. The conference does offer adult training at the end of every summer.

4. Contemporary Christian Music is very important to youth and Rachel has developed an extensive email list that is sent an update weekly on Christian concerts in Louisiana. We will organize trips to concerts as often as possible.

5. Training of Andree Aycock is also very important for this District. Andree is energetic and dedicated to the youth. Hopefully she will be around for years and the more opportunities she has to attend conferences and various training events can only be an asset to our District. We should do all possible to encourage and support her!

6. My long term vision would be at least apart time paid District Youth Coordinator to actually be able to travel throughout the District and work with the churches - m particular those that are struggling to keep their youth groups going; the ones that want to start groups; and to inform & encourage the larger churches as to their importance in being involved in the District.

7. One more vision - as you can see from a few of the items above - I believe that Christian Contemporary music is extremely important to youth. I would really love to see the Acadiana area begin hosting concerts of national level performers. If churches, and not only Methodist, would pool their resources I know it would be possible. Other communities do it and so can we!

8. We need a source for cheap Bibles to hand out to youth at concerts done by local youth banks.

9. Resources - need to add buildings and facilities to survey

I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me. Phil. 4:13 THE LOUISIANA CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
