Habitat for Humanity: Good News House

"Buy One, Get One Free!" is the motto for this year's Habitat for Humanity Good News House. Habitat has been able to affordably purchase homes in need of renovation so that for the price of building a new house for one family, the group of church's participating in the Good News House will be able to renovate two houses for two families! The schedule is different this year too. Work began on April 21 and will continue through October to complete our houses.

Calvary's work day was Saturday, May 2. Everyone at Calvary can participate in Habitat: you can work, provide lunch, or pray for the house, workers and family. Making some noise: Each Sunday in May, we colleced your “pocket” change in a “Clatter Collection” to support the Good News Habitat House and wl concludde the month with a special service on Sunday, May 31 when we focused on Habitat for Humanity and collected “major” donations to support the Good News House. Our fund raising goal this year was $900.

The houses are 215 Aveline and 1226 S. Congress in Ypsilanti. For more information, including a map to the sites and pictures, see the Good News House website.

CROP Walk

The Washtenaw CROP Walk is held annually (October 18, 2009) to raise awareness of hunger needs locally and world wide. Click here to register online to walk or donate to this year's CROP Walk. This fund raiser and hunger awareness helps support many local food pantries and meal programs for those in need in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, with 25% of the monies staying locally and the balance going to regional and world wide hunger relief programs. CROP WALKS help to support the overall ministry of Church World Service, especially the grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts of partner agencies in more than 80 countries. CROP WALKS help to provide tools of hope that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools, to well sand water systems, to nutrition-enhancing Moringa trees, to technical training and micro-enterprise loans, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs-- something CWS has learned through more than 50 years of working in partnership around the world. Join the Calvary CROP Walkers and help us raise money to to feed the hungry and alleviate poverty!
