*Attention Children!
*Liturgical Colors used in the Church
WHITE: Symbolizes the Creator, light, joy, purity, innocence, glory and perfection. We use white at Christmastide, Easter, Ascension, and other special times such as weddings and funerals.
PURPLE: Symbolizes "...the regal color, referring to the triumphal entry of the King of Kings. It is also the color of penitence, referring to the purple garments on our Lord when they mocked Him." (John 19:2; Mark 15:17) Purple is used during the season of Advent and Lent.
RED: Depicts divine zeal on the day of Pentecost and refers to the blood of the Martyrs of the Church.
GREEN: Signifies hope; it is the universal color of nature. Green is used during the regular times of the church year, or Kingdomtide.
BLACK: Denotes grief and sorrow. Black may be used for Good Friday.
Have you ever wondered why the colors change on the pulpit and altar of our church throughout the year? Here is an explanation of how Christians use color to celebrate the seasons of the church year.
