Advance SpecialThe Advance Special is a program through the United Methodist Church that allows local congregations and individuals to support missionaries and missions beyond their normal giving.
If you plan to give through the Advance special, your can submit your gift to the church treasurer. He or she then needs to indicate on the monthly form that goes to the conference the amount of the gift and the advance special number. For Unalaska, the number is #931855 for Outreach, and #931012 for Pastoral Support. The conference then submits these funds to the General Board of Global Ministries, who then sends it on to Alaska, where it is finally sent directly to us. Though this process takes some time, it allows for accountability and give credit to your church for benevolent giving beyond normal apportionments or shares of ministry.
