Theressa Hoover United Methodist Church was founded in 1981 under the leadership of Rev. William “Bill” Robinson, Jr. He selected the name to reflect the mission of the new church as one that was to be in ministry with the surrounding community. With support from the United Methodist Community Developers Program, Rev. Robinson established the Black Community Developers non-profit organization which spawned a number of programs such as Paw Paw’s Day Care, Hoover Treatment Center, BCD Affordable Housing Program and the Hoover Youth Activity Center. Pastor Robinson retired in June 2003 but continues to be present in support of the community ministry that he organized in 1981.
