Sunnyside-Centenary

United Methodist Church

Our Current Building site consists of the west two-thirds of the block bordered by Yamhill and Taylor Streets between35th and 36th Avenues in Southeast Portland.  The Sanctuary and social hall was built in 1911, replacing an earlier wooden building.  After a major fire in 1948, this section of the building was extensively rebuilt.

In 1922, an addition, named "The Community House Annex" was added to the east of the main building.  The Annex contained a swimming pool in the basement, and a full size gym on the second floor.   Unfortunately, an under-ground waterway draining from Mt Tabor to the Willamette River passed directly under the site, forcing the church to remove the pool in later years.

In addition to the main building, the church maintains a residence and a Storefront Building on the site.  The residence is used by church employees.

The Storefront houses the Intercultural Support Center, a program of Oregon Health Sciences University.
