Pastor Dale Ashby

My name is Dale Ashby. I was born in San Luis Obispo, CA in 1962. My childhood was not exactly typical compared to most American kids. My family moved around a lot when I was growing up. I lived in five different countries and attended eight different schools from grade school through high school. Much of my life as a boy was spent living in several Central American countries, including Costa Rica, Panama, and Honduras.

I attended college at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and obtained a BS and an ME in aeronautical engineering. Following graduation, I went to work for NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. A few years later, I attended Stanford University and obtained my Ph.D. in aeronautical engineering. I continued working for NASA until December, 1999. I then began working for Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut. When in 2003 I felt called by God to go into ordained ministry, I left Sikorsky Aircraft and began attending Drew University, pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree. I completed my Masters of Divinity in May of 2006. In June of 2006 I was commissioned as a Probationary Elder in the New York Annual Conference.

In 1991 and again in 1994, I was part of a VIM team that traveled to Bolivia to work on projects for the Methodist Church in that country. In the summer of 2004, I took a unit of CPE at Bridgeport Hospital, working as a chaplain in the emergency room. I am currently seeking to become an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church and to serve as a pastor in the local church. I am serving now in my first appointment as a Probationary Elder appointed to the Southern Delaware Charge in the Catskill Hudson District of the New York Annual Conference. I have been married 23 years to my wonderful wife, Laura and have a 15 year old son, Philip. In my spare time, I enjoy playing guitar, writing music, and hiking.
