Consultation of Methodist Heads of Churches in Malaysia and Singapore
This was held in Aman Timber Camp of Rambunan Hijau, Kapit from March
9th to 13th 1998. The main concern in the consultation is the mission work
among the Iban people and in the Timber Camp.
Owing to the noise problems that come from the long house during worship,
separate chapels need to be built at nearby long houses. About 6 to 7 places
need chapels urgently and another 5 places need parsonages. A simple chapel
structure will cost about RM10,000 to RM15,000 (US$2,500 to US$3,700) while
each parsonage will cost about RM20,000 to RM30,000.
Marking the New Millenium
World Methodists are inviting all congregations to a global celebration
of Jesus' 2000th birthday. The World Methodist Council has created resources
and events for the next three years to help Christians everywhere prepare
for and mark the new millenium. These include:
Bible Reading for Advent
Themes for these readings are: The Coming Messiah (1997), Good News
for the World (1998) and The Light of the World (1999).
Bible Studies
The first of three studies, Luke's Gospel: Good News for a new Millenium
has been prepared by the Rev. J. Ellsworth Kalas, a noted United Methodist
pastor, evangelist and teacher.
The Millenium Book
Jesus Christ, God with Us, will be published in late 1998 by
the Upper Room.
A Millenium Hymn
Rejoice All Christions of the World has been written specially
for the observance by R. Kenneth Lile, with music by Albin C. Whitworth.
Millenium Events
Appropriate to each church's culture are being encouraged.
Support for Christians in the Holy Land
Christians worldwide are urged to visit Middle East Christians who
live in Jerusalem and Bethleham and to work in volumteer mission teams
there between now and the year 2000.
The Year 2000 - "The Year of the Lord's Favor"
The intention of this observance is to join with other Christians worldwide
"in proclaiming by word and deed that the One born 2000 years ago is Savior
and Lord today."
