The district committee is responsible for:

• Planning and overseeing training courses for lay speaking
• Supporting and encouraging lay speakers
• Approving certified lay speaker candidates
• Keeping records on certified and local church lay speakers
• Receiving annual reports of lay speakers’ ministries
• Acting on applications for recertification
• Promoting lay speaking ministry within the district
• Maintaining communication with conference and national lay speaking ministry coordinators

The district committee meets every other month and publishes a periodic newsletter, The Proclamation, which is mailed to lay speakers, prospective lay speakers, pastors in the district and district coordinators of Lay Speaking Ministries in other districts within the Detroit Annual Conference.
