Get Connected - Membership at Otterbein ChurchWhat's in it for me? The primary reason to become an active member is not to gain a personal advantage but to identify with the characteristics of spiritual maturity and commitment to the mission of the church. Members are critical as they own our vision and are "stakeholders" in achieving our mission "To follow Jesus by living and sharing our faith." Why join? At Otterbein Church, we believe membership is important in a local church for many reasons. * Personal - Membership encourages spiritual growth as scripture places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other. At Otterbein Church, our desire is to encourage everyone to be "on the path" actively participating in the journey to spiritual maturity. * Cultural - We live in an age where few want to be committed to anything...a job, marriage, or family. Membership swims against the current of modern consumer mentality allowing us the opportunity to share hope with people in dire need of "the mind-blowing thing called grace." * Biblical - Christ is committed to the church. Ephesians 5:25 says that "Christ loved the church, and gave His life for her." Membership in a local church is an important step in demonstrating our commitment to Christ. Expectations for Membership * To worship regularly and invite friends, family, and co-workers to join you * To pray for Otterbein Church and your unchurched friends and family regularly supporting the mission "To follow Jesus by living and sharing our faith." * To do life together in a Life Group digging deeper in to God's word alongside other believers * To serve others in a meaningful ministry using your gifts in helping others to know Christ * To tithe or work towards tithing your income as scripture teaches us to give the first portion to God.
How Do I Get Started? Otterbein Church offers a Membership & Orientation class on selected Sundays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. that outlines our beliefs, history, and structure for our mission in full detail. This class is required before becoming a member of Otterbein Church. Contact: Wanda Baker, Guest and Member Connections
