Acid Rain: An Adirondack Tragedy

A mini-documentary distributed free to libraries and schools. For Central New Yorkers, the Onondaga Public Library has a copy of this video available for loan. There is also a full-color booklet and classroom poster available. Contact the Adirondack Council.

Affluenza and its sequel, Escape from Affluenza

Two one-hour programs produced by PBS and hosted by Scott Simon. These videos deal with the serious topic of our over consumption. Witty and very well-done. There are helpful discussion guides available on the web as well as ideas for hosting an Affluenza viewing party. We have a copy of these videos that we can bring to show to your church group.

Arithmetic, Population, and Energy

Arithmetic, Population, and Energy is a one-hour video lecture by Dr. Albert Bartlett on sustainability. Very powerful and clearly states the concepts concerning energy sustainability.

This video can be used in two parts. If you schedule two one-hour sessions the group can view the first half and discuss it in the first hour and finish viewing and discussing the video in the second session. We have a number of Bartlett's articles available if anyone wants any more information on this topic. If your group would like someone to lead a discussion on this topic contact us.

Curing Affluenza

Curing Affluenza produced by EcuFilm is a series of six half-hour videos by Tony Campolo. It comes with a study guide and addresses the following topics:

Abundant life: What is it?

Money: How poor does Jesus want us to be?

Time: How much do I have to give away?

Stuff: How much can I have?

Support: Who will help?

Next: What do I do come Monday morning?

God's Creation and Global Warming

The National Council of Churches has produced this video on global warming. You can view it on the web or borrow it from the NCNY Conference Resource Center.

Keeping the Earth: Religious and Scientific Perspectives on the Environment

Keeping the Earth is a beautiful 30-minute video produced by The Union of Concerned Scientists in conjunction with the National Religious Partnership for the Environment. It would make a good introductory program for a congregation as well as for anyone else. There is a discussion guide which accompanies the video. We have a copy we can bring to show to your church group.

Love the Earth and Be Healed

Love the Earth and Be Healed proposes that the earth is in trouble because we stopped loving it in order to use it. If that's the case, we can reverse things. We can start loving the earth and all of creation again. And what we love we won't destroy. Furthermore, if we start loving the earth again, we ourselves will be healed by being reconnected to all that God called good.

"A powerful resource for congregational and organizational education--the best on the market today about the environment and spirituality." --Paul Burks, Earthlight magazine

This series of six videos, including a study guide, is available from EcuFilm. It's also available for loan at the North Central New York Resource Center.

The Man Who Planted Trees

Inspirational video - an example both of environmental issues, but also of the power one dedicated individual has to make a positive impact on the world. Check your local library.

More Fun, Less Stuff: The Challenges and Rewards of a New American Dream

More Fun, Less Stuff is an entertaining, informative look at the hidden costs of the "more is better" definition of the American dream. Hosted by actor Danny Glover, this thirty-minute film features inspiring profiles of individuals, companies and organizations that are changing the way they consume to improve quality of life, protect the environment and promote social justice. More Fun, Less Stuff is a terrific tool for schools, faith-based groups, community organizations and the general public to learn more about how to make a difference!
