Fair Trade

Buying Fair Trade products is one way to work for justice in the world.

Fair Trade emphasizes the "triple bottom line:

a fair deal for the producers of a product,
environmental sustainability, and
profitability for all parties in the chain of production.

Fair Trade is an international movement that started 50 years ago. It is a certification process which ensures consumers that products meet Fair Trade standards.

Coffee, tea, and cocoa are the most readily available products that are certified as Fair Trade, but bananas will soon be available as well.

Resources:

The Fair Trade Labeling Organizations International - the association of all Fair Trade certification agencies

TransFair USA - the organization in the US that certifies coffee, tea, and cocoa. (This is the organization that certifies Equal Exchange products that many congregations purchase through its Interfaith program.)
