Energy and you ... and each member of your congregation
Each member of your congregation can be a good steward of God's gift of
energy in their personal lives! Here are four different kinds of things we
each can do:
 | Conserve energy - i.e.
using less energy by not wasting energy. It's not
"shivering in the dark," but rather includes things such as
turning out the lights when you leave the room. And it's really not so
bad to wear a sweater or thermal underwear in the winter! You can also
use less energy for transportation such as walking, bicycling, or
taking the bus when possible. |
 | Use energy more efficiently - i.e. use less energy to
provide the same benefit. For
example, replacing your incandescent light bulbs with more-efficient
compact fluorescent bulbs uses only about a fourth as much electricity
for exactly the same amount of illumination. The only difference is
that the compact fluorescent bulbs last much longer than the
old-fashioned incandescent bulbs! |
 | Purchase clean, renewable energy from your power company or
by purchasing green tags. Many states now allow consumers to purchase
clean, renewable energy by paying a modest surcharge. For NiMo and
