Create a Backyard Wildlife Habitat on your church grounds - If your congregation has even a small plot of land,
one hands-on action project for kids and adults might be to create a Backyard Wildlife
Habitat.
This offers the opportunity to learn about basic habitat requirements,
gives kids (and families) ideas about what they can do with their own
backyards other than just lawns, and provides a chance to compost. Kids on
many levels can participate in many different ways and feel they have made a
contribution. They can even get an official certification from the National Wildlife Federation.
Start a worm composting area at church - Worm composting appeals to kids, and it gives the
opportunity to discuss God's plan for recycling waste as well as illustrating the important
role even lowly creatures such as worms can play as part of God's plan. Some churches have also had a "Blessing of the Worm Bin!"
Go the Extra Mile in the annual CROP Walk - Kids are
especially enthusiastic about helping world hunger by participating in
the CROP Walk each year. Help increase their understanding of the
bigger picture and increase their effectiveness by Going
the Extra Mile in the CROP Walk next year.
