It's interesting to note that the Household EcoTeam program uses the
same model as did the Methodist class system: members of the group hold
each other accountable for fulfilling their commitments, but the group
is at the same time responsible for helping each individual fulfill that
commitment.
The Household EcoTeam project has been recommended by a United
Methodist Church resolution!
The Turn the
Tide as a Faith Community is a program developed by The
Center for a New American Dream as one of their faith-based
initiatives.
From the New Dream website:
Most faith traditions teach us the importance of treating people
justly and of caring for the Earth. Yet, in this complex, busy world it
is often challenging to know how to act on our values. Turn the Tide is
a powerful program of nine actions each of us can take that will have a
measurable, positive impact on our world - and it lets us see that
impact immediately through an interactive online web site.
As a congregation or an individual person of faith you'll be able to
see the collective impact of your actions as well as see the impact of
everyone taking part across the continent. By taking small steps
together and seeing the results of our actions, we can have a
significant positive impact on the environment and be motivated to keep
going. Not sure if you can organize a group in your congregation? Be a
role model and be the first to sign up for Turn the Tide as a member of
your congregation. You'll be joining thousands of other people of faith
who want to make a difference.
Sign your congregation up for this program and they can provide
sample bulletin inserts, newsletter articles, speaking points,
educational resources, and organizing tips to help get you started.
