This is a summary of the further actions taken by a congregation that participated in the Food for Thought (and Action!) program.

Totals:

Total # surveys returned from people who pledged: 160
Total # who took further action beyond the pledge: 83 (52%)

Major Categories:

Ate more organic food: 13
Ate more local food: 8
Ate less meat: 4
Started growing their own food: 12
Started shopping at farmers’ markets: 6
Read additional books, articles, etc. on food issues: 5
Joined a CSA: 3
Joined a food co-op: 3
Joined an organic food delivery service program: 3

Other comments:

Began buying unpackaged ingredients, raw foods
Eat healthier
Joined a health club
Cutting out/decreasing significantly white sugar
Looking for more grain products organically grown and generally speaking, looking at labels more for organic
Joined weight watchers
Spoke with local market regarding use of local foods
