Consider Volunteering at My Friend's Place

My Friend's Place is a social activity program for people coping with memory loss, dementia or who are socially isolated. It is our mission to provide adults a safe, supportive and friendly environment that offers life-enriching social and recreational activities along with respite for their caregivers.

Because we feel it is important to keep a ratio of one staff or volunteer to every two participants, we are always looking for new volunteers who are caring and concerned individuals willing to make a time commitment to the program. Training in the Best Friend's Approach (based on the book by Virginia Bell and David Troxel) is required and is provided free to all volunteers.

Volunteers will be helping participants with fun filled activities such as sing-a-longs, physical exercise, reminiscences, crafts, conversations and refreshments.

My Friend's Place offers caregivers some time away from the constant care and responsibility of a frail or confused older family member. We also offer support and education to help families deal with the changes in the life of their loved one as well as their own.

My Friend's Place is held at First United Methodist Church in Bangor, Maine on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
