Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah

Scripture Meditations

Revelation 19:6  And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

Revelation 11:15  And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become [the kingdoms] of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 19:16  And he hath on [his] vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

HALLELUJAH!
for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
The kingdom of this world is become the
kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ;
and He shall reign for ever and ever.
King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
HALLELUJAH!

music by Georg Frederic Handel

lyrics from the King James Version of the Holy Bible

This tune is not a good choice for public singing, nor is it a toe-tapper.  It is, however, a classical piece that is widely recognized.  Often performed by large choral groups around Christmas, it actually refers to Christ's second advent, which is to come.  Hallelujah, or Alleluia is a rendering of the Hebrew meaning "praise the LORD," or "praise Yahweh."  Click on the image of Handel for more information about him.
