Green Committee

The Green Committee has been working on the greening of the church in various ways.

Here are 10 things GreenAmerica says you should never buy again

1 - styrofoam cups   -paper cups are an alternative
2 - paper towels   -its possible to do without them; sponges work the same way
3 - bleached coffee filters   -you can get non-bleached filters
4 - bottled water   -Concord, MA has outlawed them
5 - chemical pesticides and herbicides     -they tend to make the situation worse eventually
6 - conventional household cleaners   -most supermarkets have non-toxic cleaners
7 - toys made with PVC plastic   -examine at the label
8 - plastic forks and spoons   -the Church is guilty here. The compostable alternative costs more
9 - farm raised salmon   -wild caught is usually available in the same market
10 - teak and mahogany    -harvested by clear-cutting which is creating erosion

At the crossroads of the world's culture and faiths, Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church has been in ministry in Harvard Square for over a century. We strive to provide an inclusive Christian witness to the city and university. We participate in the Reconciling Ministries Network, and welcome all people, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, ability, marital status, or financial condition.
