Sagip is a Filipino term for "save" or "redeem" while Grupong Sagip means "redeeming group." This idea was conceived by a group of church workers with the motive to to educate children and youth about respect of indigenous life & culture, interdependence and moral responsibility toward the integrity of God's creation. A cultural group was formed in the summer of 1994 by the church workers association during an assembly meeting held in Kabacan, Cotabato, Philippines. Talented youth were recruited and trained to do cultural shows by means of music and theater plays depicting environmental issues. The core group who did the recruiting and training was comprised of Elizabeth Lugares, Leny Antipolo, Noel Guzman and Emelyn Alegre.
