From the 1996 General Conference web page: "The 1996 United Methodist General Conference was held April 16-26 in Denver, Colorado at the Colorado Convention Center. The 'mile high city' was host to 998 delegates, many staff persons, and an estimated 5000 visitors. Every four years approximately 1000 delegates come together to chart the course for this multi-million member religious denomination. General Conference is the only body authorized to create and modify The Book of Discipline, United Methodism's 'church law'."
