SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS

Summer Swim Party.  Meet for a late afternoon swim and early evening potluck.  Let Jeanne Pfeiffer (916-933-7722) know if you're interested.

UMW Book Group.  Do you like to read and then share what you thought and felt?  We also share good food while we cry, laugh, and wonder about what we read.  This is a monthly event on the third Tuesday, at 7:15 PM (on the same evening as the Men's Group).  For more information, call Janet Bunje at 530-676-9008.

Ladies Night Out at the church.  Do you like to learn new games? Laugh? Nibble on goodies? Come to Ladies Night Out and meet new and old friends. See Rita Heikura (530-677-4117) for suggestions or more information for this monthly event.

Knitting and Crocheting.  All materials are provided, and someone will be there to teach how to quilt or crochet.  If you have a sewing machine to bring, please bring it along if you choose to stay and quilt.  Our own community benefits from this outreach mission.  For more information, contact Jeannie Pfeiffer (916-933-7722).

FUMC UMW Fall Retreat.  Come and renew your faith, let it grow with others through fellowship, and drink in our guest Pastor's sermons.    There is time to rejoice with others, celebrate God's compassion, have time to clear your head, take a walk through the trees under the beautiful blue sky, and maybe dip your toe into the lake.
Where (details for Oct. 12-14, 2007):  Zephyr Cove Presbyterian Conference Center (Lake Tahoe).  The total cost is $135, which includes room (two beds/room, all linens supplied) and board for the entire weekend (start saving!), with some scholarships available.  All the rooms are for two people.  If you have attended past retreats and are considering attending this year, talk to other women: Share your experiences, invite someone new to attend.  This should be a special retreat with a new location, and opportunities for new traditions and customs. Talk to Barbara Perry (916-933-3886) or Jeanne Pfeifer (916-933-7722) for more information.

Something New for Knitters, Crotchetiers or Quilters

We have had members making prayer shawls that are presented to church and community members.  We have also been making quilts to give to children entering child protective services.  In addition to having three Saturday “work days” throughout the year, we also have kits to take one home with you to work on your own timetable.  We have bags (kits) to make prayers shawls or quilt tops on a table under the UMW bulletin board (near the kitchen).

Prayer Shawls:  Each prayer shawl bag has yarn and directions.  There is a basket with crochet hooks and knitting needles.  Take a bag and hook or needles home, and whenever you are finished, bring the completed shawl back in the bag to the UMW table.  Either return the hook/needles to the basket or take another bag of yarn.

Quilts:  Three different types of bags:  Cut squares and directions sewing a quilt top; Fabrics to cut into squares and directions for sewing a quilt top; or Quilt top, batting, backing, yarn and directions to complete a quilt.  Take a bag home and complete the directions.  Return in the bag to the UMW table.

Donations:  Do you have yarn, fabrics or supplies that you would like to donate?  Or would you like to contribute funds if you do not knit or perhaps do have the time by making a donation so we can purchase supplies to complete different projects?  Please talk to Jeanne Pfeifer (916-933-7722).
