Current ministries at Community UMC

Our Wednesday Night ESL Bible Study meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM. We have hosted a variety of international students and workers from over a dozen countries. Our participants have varying degrees of English proficiency. We read from the New Testament on Wednesday nights. Participants begin the evening with introductions and prayer. Then we preview vocabulary found in the Bible passage and, if necessary, discuss the passage’s cultural and historical context. We take turns reading the passage out loud and then follow a series of questions for discussion and application. Sometimes there’s food.

Our Sunday Morning ESL Bible Study meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM before the service. This group is another part of our ESL ministry, but unlike the Wednesday night group, we study a figure from the Old Testament on Sunday mornings and follow his or her story over a few weeks. It is important to note that anyone who is interested— whether fluent in English or not— should feel free to check out this group!

Community Tuesdays is our small group ministry. We meet weekly for Bible study and fellowship on Tuesdays from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Meetings include sharing joys and prayer requests. Sometimes we sing praise songs and occasionally we have group activities. Hosts have led the group through some deep discussions. We hve gathered at members homes and at the church. In June we will be meeting at Charlesview Apartments in Allston as an outraech ministry. All are welcome to attend.

Adult “No Homework” Sunday School Class meets on Sundays at 9:15 AM. We engage in devotional readings from Next Door Savior by Max Lucado, and have a short Bible study as well. We have decided to suspend this class for the summer until September
