Dear Partners,
I greet you in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with great pleasure that I write to you all today. My name is Nkemba Ndjungu. I am the new GBGM missionary assigned to Cameroon to replace the Magruders.
For those of you who don’t us let me take this opportunity to give you a little information about my family and myself. My wife’s name is Mbwizu Ndjungu. We are native of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Lord has blessed us with six children: three girls (Clarisse, Sylvie and Tantine) and three boys (Catone, Chris and George). Five are living on this earth and one (Tantine) is living in heaven since 1998. I have become a minister of the United Methodist Church in the DRC in 1984 where I served as Pastor of a local church, then District Superintendent, then UNHCR accountant for two years (with my Bishop’s approval), and then Pastor of a local church again before being called to mission work in 1997. After our missionary training in Atlanta Georgia, we were appointed as GBGM missionaries to Senegal.
When we arrived in Senegal in March 1998, there were seven members of the UMC in the country. After nine years of hard work in this 95% Muslim country, we have been able to establish seventeen churches and eleven people (including a woman, the first in the Senegalese history) have been ordained as elders of the United Methodist Church. We consider it to be a special blessing from the Lord because some of other denominations have been in this country for more than fifty years, but they don’t have even ten members yet. We can only praise the Lord for what He has done through us. My wife and I took a one year leave of study (July 2007-July2008) which I used to refresh my theological knowledge at Boston University. Now, we have come to Cameroon with the same spirit as in Senegal: that of making disciples of Jesus Christ and laying a solid foundation of the United Methodist Church in this country.
I thank you all for what you have been doing for this mission and we appreciate your choice of being in partnership with the UMC in Cameroon. I want particularly to encourage you all with these words of the Apostle Paul in 2Thessalonians 3: 13 “As for you brethren, do not grow weary in doing what is good”. We strongly urge you to join us in this endeavor of serving the Lord.
One of our priorities this year is to enable an intensive Pastors’ training in order to lead them to ordination next year. Also in addition to church development, there are some other ministries that will require your attention and support. I list a few of them here: a) Church construction; b) Christian Education; c) Health ministry; d) Youth ministry; e) Prison ministry. We encourage you all to send VIM teams to Cameroon in order to build strong relationship with local congregations and people, and establish by yourself how you can be helpful.
Once more, thank you for everything that you do for God’s sake. May the Almighty God bless you abundantly in Christ’s name. Amen!
Please send all your gifts to the Cameroon Advance number 00344A.
