Bethel Hill United Methodist Church

All Church Picnic

June 12, 2005

I would like to thank Ruth for providing additional pictures which I loaded as Group A, B, etc. to allow those of you with a dial-up connection to load approx. 20 pictures at a time instead of 100 pictures which would take years to download.

Initially, I am using the pictures I took at the picnic which are already downloaded to my computer

It is evident the kids were having a great time!  They were playing games most of the day which ended with a piņata and a water balloon toss (pictures below).

Nothing like finding some shade, a cool beverage and watching our friends have a great time.

We also participated in games that required no physical exertion.  There were several brown bags that were labeled with a letter and a number.  The letter represented the first letter of the contents as a clue.  The game (or contest) is to figure out the contents.  Andy and Mim did an excellent job of making it tough.

I think almost everyone tried to logically ascertain (guess!) what was in the brown bags.

Every time I walked past the table while taking pictures, I would be asked to feel a bag and give an opinion what the contents might be.

As it got later in the day, the breeze decreased and it started to get warmer.  It was coolest in the pavilion especially since those seats were very close to the ice tea, lemonade, and water.

There was a large selection of lunch items and desserts.

You can see from the picture the diversity of the salads, baked beans, snacks, family specialties and in the background are some of the tons of franks that were avalable.

And regarding chips, pretzels, and desserts ...........

Yummy!!!!!

Even the youngest members of the church were enjoying themselves (or taking a little snooze).

There is nothing like relaxing on a Sunday afternoon and talking to our friends in the congregation.

Luckily, there was a lot of shady areas to keep cool.

Everyone was smiling or laughing which would indicate they had as much of a good time as I had all afternoon.

Our pastor not only led the flock but he showed off his baseball prowess also ....... while the rest of us looked for shade and a cool beverage, Pastor George was running around the field catching batted balls.  Oh ... I'm feeling hot and tired just thinking about it.

The kids had a great time trying to break the piņata.

One by one they took their turn.

Mim gave some instructions and handled putting on the blindfold.  There were some future baseball sluggers in the group.

I thought for sure this young fellow was going to get the candy out of that thing.  He smacked it but it didn't give the goods.

Everyone waits in eager expectation.....

Another hard smack .... what will it take to obtain the goodies???

From the look of that batting stance this could be the one!

There was a terrific turnout of picnic fun seekers.  It made for a pleasant Sunday afternoon.  I love these "all church" festivities.

What a hit ....... this is the one.

Finally, the elusive reward.  The kids really enjoyed this part of the competition.

Another neat way to cool off ..... a balloon toss.  Sometimes I wonder if anyone is really trying to win .... a water balloon is sure a quick way to cool off.

They are getting further apart and still no winner.

Could someone be trying to help the pastor cool off?

Here is another example of the ball playing prowess of Pastor George as he catches a big blue water balloon.

I hope we do this again soon!!!
