THE REGION
The region struggles with issues of land ownership substandard housing, lack of adequate education and health care, loss of jobs (economic base), and loss of cultutral tradition.
Churches of the region are also impacted by these issues, and in the midst of great need, struggle to provide commununities of hope as a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
UMAMN's purpose is to strengthen personal faith commitment and the witness and mission of the United Methodist Church in Appalachia through:
Linking denominational and Appalachian concerns and resources
Advocating for Appalachia
Gathering persons for networking
Providing leadership development
Collecting and disseminating data and research on the Appalachian Region
