Pass It On

The Detroit Conference Pass It On Campaign is showing results!

NEW CHURCHES

Arise United Methodist Church had its first service at Pinckney High School (between Ann Arbor and Brighton) on September 29. Attendance was about 375. Worship service began with a brief drama and the leadership of a praise band. A children's choir was started to prepare an Advent musical. A group was started to help Habitat for Humanity.

Macomb Community Church had its first service at Seneca Middle School on October 27. Attendance was about 200. The service was similar to the one at Arise. The bulletin carried the compass logo with the words, "A New Church for a New Century/A New United Methodist Congregation". A sheet in the bulletin asked for prayer requests and other information. A section called "Message Notes" contained sentences to be completed, some Bible verses relevent to the day's message, and a list of messages for the following Sundays.

Common elements of these new beginnings:

These new church starts are attempting to be on the cutting edge of the future of the Church in our society. The snapshot they provide shows us how we reach both "formerly churches" and unchurched persons in newly populated, growing neighborhoods.

CAMP IMPROVEMENTS

A new hall is underway at Camp Michigamme in the Marquette District.

At Judson Collins Camp, several projects have made it possible to expand the camp to accommodate 128 campers in cold weather and 300 campers in warm weather. The roof of the Dorm Building was extended over the sidewalk; the exterior was repainted; new doors were installed; and the Annex restrooms were remodeled. Four new cabins have been built. Other cabins have been repainted, reroofed, and had new doors installed. A year-round lodge is under construction which will have a meeting room and sleeping space for sixteen persons.

IN PLANNING

Two more new church starts with projected first services at the end of 1997.

A retreat center.
