The United Methodist Churches of Midland County are sponsoring the building of a home as part of the Habitat for Humanity Year 2000 program. The home is at Pfeiffer Court (off of Perrine Road across Saginaw Road from Dow High School). The project started January 16 with the ground breaking ceremony on April 9. _

All members of Aldersgate are now eligible for membership at Members First Credit Union, 600 West Wackerly and 617 Bayliss. help 835-5100. _

The new Mission Project of our Christian Education program was for Habitat for Humanity. We have raised $613.79. The Fall project was aid for Turkey Earthquake victims. We gave $217.73. Comments by members of Aldersgate of the aftermath of the quake can be found in an interview on the General Board of Global Ministries web site. _

The following Adult Study opportunities were held this Winter:

Faith Lessons on the Prophets and Kings of Israel

A Brown Bag Bible Study was held on Tuesdays, with Dr. Stout leading. This year's study was on the book of Isaiah. _

On April 29, we had a Baptismal Covenant Renewal and Confirmation ceremony in which we welcomed Rebecca Boynton, Eric DePew, and Katie Mancroni into membership. They have participated in a year-long study with Rev. Stout. Our congratulations to them. Thanks to the Chime Choir and to Barb Boxwell and Chris Laitner for special music. Thanks also to the Readers' Theater for their performance of The Sower Who Knew Better. _

Easter Thanks to all who made Easter week a memorable experience. Especially moving was the Sunrise Service by the youth groups. The Chancel, Bell, Children's and Rainbow choirs plus the organ-piano duets were awe-inspiring. The Easter breakfast was a wonderful time to commune with one another. A special thanks to those who contributed lilies. _

An appreciation goes to Fred Scribner, husband of our outstanding caretaker, Jacqueline, for his superb work in repairing and painting walls in preparation for Easter and our 40th Anniversary celebration. _

Congratulations to Tim Hill, Chris Schroeder, Jeff Schroeder, and Kacie Snyder for being selected to participate in the Youth Leadership Program in April. _

A special course, Discovering God's Vision for Your Life: You and Your Spiritual Gifts, was held on Wednesday evenings during the Lenten season. Thanks to the leaders for their thoughtful insight. _

Welcome back to Rev. Stout and the others who were on a ten-day trip to Israel with Educational Opportunities in March. Thanks to Lay Speaker Dean Tobey, the youth groups, and Rev. Don Haskell for filling in for him during his absence. _

Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God was the subject of a 12 session adult study opportunity on Monday evenings. The study includes a daily scripture study discipline with weekly fellowship. Thanks to Bryan Warner for leading it. _

Reception of new members was held on February 27. We welcomed Curtis & Barbara Bedbury, Richard & Barbara Boyer, David Charles & Joan McKinnon, Ross Charles, Steve & Kelly Guentert, Kim & Karen Krueger, and Karen Wallace into membership. _

Thanks to the Chime Choir and the Women's Ensemble for the special music at the first service on February 10. _

Thanks to all who helped with the UMW Soup Supper on February 3. A good crowd polished off a lot of soup, salad, and dessert. Profit was over $500. _

The Youth thank all who purchased Super Bowl subs on January 30. About $400 was netted which will help offset the costs of scheduled trips this summer to Cedar Point and White Water Rafting. _

A dedication for our rainbow choir bells was held on January 30. The bells are a gift from a anonymous donor. Thanks to the choir for enriching our services. Don't their new hats look sharp? _

The United Methodist Women had an installation service for their new officers at the worship service on January 23. Recognition was given to retiring officers. Co-President Alice Morgan give the message on The Other Side of the Story telling of the missions work of the UMW and the Church. _

A dedication for our new sign was held on January 9. The sign is a memorial to Ida Bond, a charter member of Aldersgate. Our thanks to her family and friends for memorial gifts and guidance which made the sign possible. _
