Introduction...
4th Avenue UMC is a member of the Western District of the West Virginia Annual Conference. The United Methodist Church is a group of followers of Jesus Christ that believe in having open doors, open hearts, as well as open minds. This is the foundation of us here at 4th Avenue. And our mission is as follows:
To Offer Christ To All The World By Sharing Ourselves, Our Gifts, and Our Service.
A Brief History...
4th Avenue United Methodist Church has underwent numerous name and structural changes since its founding in 1906. The new building design was developed in the 1950's and other structural changes were made in the following years. Finally the new design received a steeple in August 1990. To make our church more handicap accessible, an elevator was also added within the past few years.
Chancel Choir/Music...
The 4th Avenue United Methodist Chancel Choir is under the direction of Phyllis Cook. The choir fills the services every Sunday with their wonderful music and the praising of the Lord through song. Highly influenced by the Gaithers, the 4th Avenue UMC choir is bound to have you tapping your feet! 4th Avenue UMC has also been blessed to have some wonderful musicians which include:

Children/Youth Department...
Our children's department is led by June Angle. Each week the kids learn about Jesus and his teachings through various activities and bible lessons.
Quliters and Crafters
The quilters and crafters group is led by Ellen Dewees. They meet each Wednesday from 9am to 4pm to quilt together. Ellen will teach anyone to quilt for whoever may be wanting to learn. All quilting proceeds go directly to the church.
Tri State Transplant Support Group
Dorcie Steinbrecher is the President of the Tri-State Transplant Support Group. This group holds meetings in the church at the 1st Thursday of each month. The meetings are informal and consist of those waiting on an organ transplant and those who have had a transplant. Guest speakers include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, organ donor families, etc. They have group discussions so that people can share their feelings, thoughts, and opinions. They also work with the WV-KY Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) which is their local organ procurement organization. KODA trains medical personnel on how to obtain organs as well as dealing with families regarding organ donation. The Support Group also helps KODA man booths at local health fairs throughout the region.
