GETTING REAL ABOUT EDUCATION
If you have read about our mission, you already know that we are a small church in a large setting. Aberdeen First United Methodist Church currently has no Sunday school program. So if you are a young family looking for an established children's ministry, you might wish to keep looking.
But we want you to know that Christian Education is one of the reasons we feel so strongly about remaining in ministry here in Aberdeen. Here are a few suggestions.
Find a church that teaches your child that God created us and the universe we live in rather than specifically HOW God went about doing it. Do you really want your child to think of science as the enemy?
Find a church that models wonder and excitement at being in God's world rather than fear of being "contaminated" by it.
Find a church that refuses to rely on judgment, guilt and manipulation, even if they are sugarcoated. We believe fear to be the opposite of faith. How many times did Jesus direct us to not be afraid?
There are many wonderful children's programs, which pass this test. We long to be one again.
