Our windows are perhaps the most conspicuous and beautiful
ornaments of the church. Crafted by William Heath of Philadelphia,
they are fine specimens of Ecclesiastical art. There are eighteen
stained glass windows in the church, with the two most prominent
(facing Church Street and Stockton Street) measuring fourteen feet wide
by twenty two feet long.
The large Church Street Window is a memorial to
the late Mrs. Rebecca Montayne, and bears, in addition to her name, These
verses: "Their works do follow them", and "With Christ, which is
far better". The entire lower half of the window is taken up by a
beautiful picture of the Bethany home, showing Martha preparing a feast
while Mary sits at the feet of Jesus. |
The Stockton Street Window has three large designs
with the following figures and inscriptions: Faith, presented by
Mr. and Mrs. Issac L. Davidson; Charity, In Memory of Hester A. Morrison,
Presented by Many Friends; and Hope, Presented by Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Rogers.
The upper designs of the window consist of a dove, a crown, and the letters
alpha and omega. |
This summer, we completed the window restoration project
that began in 1995. The windows were completely refurbished, releaded,
and new protective glass was placed on the exterior. |
